About Us

The Haldimand County Public Library serves a population of 50,000 located along the north shore of Lake Erie and south of Hamilton in Ontario. Our library system consists of six branches in the communities of Caledonia, Cayuga, Dunnville, Hagersville, Jarvis and Selkirk.

The Haldimand County Library Board's vision is to operate a library which is the leading community resource for relevant and diverse community connections and individual growth. The Haldimand County Public Library Board's Statement of Values includes transparency, inclusivity, responsibility, efficiency, and optimism. This statement is integrated into the decision-making of the Board and the delivery of day-to-day operations and services by staff. 

The public library plays an important role in supporting municipal strategies that build and strengthen communities, including learning, literacy, culture and recreation, business support, personal support and community development. 

Services of the Haldimand County Public Library include:

• Lending print, audiovisual and digital materials;
• Providing high-speed and wireless access to the internet with staff trained to teach technology information literacy as a life skill;
• Providing opportunities for creative use of leisure time including programs for children, youth and adults; book clubs; social and craft clubs; databases for language learning; and volunteer opportunities;
• Connecting people to government information and services;
• Providing access to materials in provincial libraries through interlibrary loan;
• Outreach to seniors' housing, local schools and homebound services. 

Initiatives identified in the Library Board's Strategic Plan and other important, current projects being worked on by library staff include:

• Construction of a new Library Branch in Hagersville, in conjunction with a community active living centre;
• Continuation of diversity programs on a quarterly basis;
• Adoption of new provincial interlibrary loan software;
• Development of a new library micro-website with continuous improvement goals;
• Acquisition and installation of new audio-visual equipment in library meeting rooms;
• Facility repairs and improvements as identified in recent building condition assessment reports, including window sealant repairs in Jarvis and pergola replacements in Dunnville.
